Pack Meeting on the Lawn

When the weather is this nice, scouts like to be outside, so the August 25th Pack meeting has been moved outside, to the front lawn of the church. Parents might want to bring a lawn chair.

It could be hot, but we have cool plans (I'm not allowed to tell what they are).

By the way, we won't be meeting on September 1 because of the Labor Day holiday, so the Aug 25 meeting is the last of the summer pack events.

Meetings to Resume August 18th

Pack 55 will begin regular meetings again on August 18th. The den rooms are being used by others that night, so we will be playing volleyball in the gym at 7 PM. If you arrive early, please come the the youth room (room 135) across from the gym. We will also be using room 137 for the parents to meet with the pack leaders and pick up a welcome packet.

Our first Pack meeting is scheduled for August 25 in Wesley Hall.

September 1 is Labor Day, so there is no meeting on that day.

We have den meetings scheduled for September 8 and 15th.

September 15th is also Roundup day at Adrian Burnett Elementary School and the evening of September 16th is signup night for new recruits.

Fishing at the Cove in Concord Park

A few scouts got together in mid-June at the Cove to fish in a small pond. Here is the fishing champ with the catch of the day, a nice sized catfish. He also caught a turtle, a sunfish and maybe a large stick.

Honoring Veterens at Knoxville National Cemetery

On the Saturday before Memorial Day Pack 55 joined 150 other scouts at Knoxville National Cemetery to place American flags on the graves of the veterans buried there.
It was a beautiful, sunny day, with 9000 flags waving in a light breeze.
Many headstones in Knoxville National Cemetery bear the names of Blue and Gray veterans who died in the Civil War. Others mark the graves of those who died young in France in World War I. Veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam are also interred here.
The graves in Knoxville National are laid out so that the headstones face the main American Flag at the center of the Cemetery. The flag flies over the cemetery every day. On Memorial Day it flies at half staff.
You can watch a news report on flag placement here.

Bowling Down Under

Bears, Wolves and Webelos had a ball (a bowling ball) at the University of Tennessee Bowling alley tonight. Four lanes were reserved for us, but three had problems. We were down to one lane! Some of the scouts hit the pool tables to loosen up, while the others laced up their bowling shoes to prepare for the game.
Now two more lanes are ready! Abandon the pool tables - back to the alleys. Top scores for the night were 121, 115 and 105. A tight race. By the way, the UT Bowling lanes are open to everyone, and the cost is very reasonable. School coupon books have a free game coupon too.
